MOSCOW: On Saturday, a massive fire broke out at a fuel storage in Sevastopol, the principal port in the Crimean peninsula that Moscow has seized. According to the officials, a drone strike is to blame for the fire.
The Black Sea Fleet of Russia is based at Sevastopol, which has seen a number of drone strikes since the start of the Kremlin's war against Ukraine last year.
In the early hours of Saturday, Mikhail Razvozhayev, the governor of Sevastopol appointed by Moscow, posted on Telegram that "a fuel reserve is on fire in the Kazachya Bay district" of the city.
"Preliminary reports indicate a drone strike was to blame," He tweeted pictures of massive smoke clouds rising into the air and estimated the area of the fire to be "around 1,000 square metres".
In a later tweet, Razvozhayev urged Crimeans to "remain calm" and stated that "nobody was hurt."
