Donald Trump disputes ever having interacted with rape allegation E Jean Carroll.

Mr Trump said he might return to New York for the trial

In a video deposition aired on Thursday in a Manhattan court where the author is suing Mr. Trump for rape, Donald Trump denied knowing E Jean Carroll.

Ms. Carroll, 79, claims Mr. Trump, 76, attacked her in a department shop in New York City in the middle of the 1990s.

The civil trial is already in its second week, but Mr. Trump has not yet appeared. He has frequently refuted the accusation.

In order to "confront" Ms Carroll in New York, he informed reporters he could shorten his ongoing golf vacation to Ireland.

Because of a woman's entirely bogus and fraudulent charge, I'll be returning early, Mr. Trump remarked.

The footage of the acrimonious deposition between the former president and one of Ms Carroll's solicitors, Roberta Kaplan, shot in October was played to the nine-member jury.

Mr. Trump persisted in vehemently refuting Ms. Carroll's claim that he forced her into a dressing room at the Bergdorf Goodman shop in Manhattan and sexually assaulted her.

Mr. Trump asserted that people at the "very busy store" would have heard a continuing attack and that "if it did happen, it would have been reported within minutes."

Following days of graphic testimony, Ms Carroll's attorneys will likely rest their case later on Thursday. After the allegedly violent attack, Ms. Carroll allegedly told the jury she was "never going to have a romantic life again."

E Jean Carroll said the alleged attack left her unable to have a romantic life

Her friend Lisa Birnbach, who testified this week that she received a call from Ms. Carroll minutes after she claims to have been raped, corroborated her testimony in court.

Additionally, Ms. Carroll's team called two additional women, Natasha Stoynoff and Jessica Leeds, who spoke about alleged sexual assaults by Mr. Trump, which he has denied.

After Mr. Trump's attorney, Joseph Tacopina, informed the judge that Mr. Trump would not be appearing to testify and that no witnesses would be called in his defence, Mr. Trump indicated that he would return to New York.

After New York passed the Adult Survivors Act in 2022, Ms. Carroll, a former columnist for Elle magazine, was qualified to file a civil lawsuit against Mr. Trump.

The law gave victims of sexual assault a year to bring lawsuits in the state for claims that would have typically been barred by statute of limitations.
