The PTI chairman spoke to the country through television today from his Zaman Park home. :-
"If you dissolve the assemblies by May 14 then we are ready on a single election date with you."
Imran stated that on May 2 (Tuesday), his negotiating team, which includes Senator Ali Zafar, Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry, and PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, will meet with the government team.
“It will be a national election and we feel we are ready for it,” he said. “This is the only way stability will be achieved, the economy will improve and the conditions of the people will transform.”
Imran slammed the government officials for their suggestion to hold elections after enacting the new budget. "I feel this has ill motives," he remarked.
“Win the polls first, get the five-year mandate and then pass the budget.”
Imran Khan questioned that “what’s the point of them presenting a budget when someone else will have to carry the weight of it.”
He claimed the “real budget” would be the one put forth by the administration that was elected to power. According to the former premier, the PTI would find it "unacceptable" if the legislatures were to be dissolved following the budget.
If you are ready to dissolve the assemblies by May 14, we are prepared to have combined elections. If not, then the Punjab elections have already been ordered by the Supreme Court to take place on May 14. Following that, we will petition the Supreme Court for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa polls.
On May 1 (Monday), Imran announced that demonstrations will be held in the three province capitals. "At noon, I'll lead the protest in Lahore from Liberty to Nasir Bagh. Qureshi will address the crowd in Islamabad at the same time as Pervez Khattak addresses the crowd in Peshawar.
He said that the rally's goal was to preserve both the Constitution and the nation. Imran also issued an invitation to the working class and the legal profession to join the demonstration.
To resolve the impasse over the schedule of the elections, the PTI and the government are holding important electoral discussions. On Friday, the two parties agreed to hold what one minister described as the "almost final round" of negotiations on May 2 (Tuesday).
During the second round of negotiations, which took place in Committee Room No. 3 at Parliament House, representatives of the administration and opposition traded suggestions. Though the development inspired some hope, the dialogue process still seems to be doomed to failure as important figures from both sides stuck to their positions and questioned the point of negotiations if one side did not accept the other's proposal.
Appeal to Supreme Court Judges
Separately, the PTI leader urged all 15 of the judges on the top court to band together for the good of the country and counselled them to put aside their egos in favour of the Constitution's supremacy.
“I’m talking to all the 15 judges today. The entire nation is looking towards you,” Khan said. “The nation is looking towards you. Stand with the Constitution.”
Imran further said: “You don’t know how close we are to anarchy. If PDM is going to destroy the Constitution then what will be left? Only the law of the jungle is left now.”
The former prime minister emphasised how the nation's top justice and his family were being singled out for attack by leaking information on the families.
In addition, he charged that by supporting the 12 coalition parties, the handlers had broken the Constitution.
Imran begged the Supreme Court judges at the conclusion of his speech to “please unite and save the country from mafias gifted to us.”
